Geoff Stewardson is a senior water and wastewater leader with more than two decades of experience working close to essential public systems. His work has included operational leadership, field supervision, environmental consulting, regulatory responsibility, capital planning, organizational change, and multidisciplinary teams.
These are operationally unforgiving environments. Decisions affect people, public services, the environment, and systems that communities depend on every day. Outcomes matter, and responsibility cannot be reduced to a slogan.
The leadership ideas within Legacy Leader grew in that space: between immediate operational demands and the longer work of building judgment, trust, capability, and endurance. They are written for readers who want useful ideas they can carry back into the work.
How the books began
A career of paying attention.
Geoff began writing by recording thoughts, observations, and leadership lessons as they surfaced in the course of his work. Over time, hundreds of notes accumulated, useful on their own, but too connected to leave as a loose collection.
He also noticed how rarely leadership development arrives in a deliberate, well-timed package. Supervisors are often carrying their own responsibilities. Coaching may happen in fragments, when a situation demands it. Much of the deeper learning comes through watching carefully, reading widely, trying something, and returning to the work with a better question.
The Still Point and The Long Work grew from that long practice of paying attention. They are not lectures from a distance; they are an attempt to put hard-won observations into a form another reader can use.

Why this work
There was a gap between leadership writing and leadership reality.
Much of what is written about leadership emphasizes inspiration, performance, or intensity. Far less addresses durability, judgment, trust, and the long arc of responsibility carried over time.

Geoff holds a diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology, along with P.Tech. (Eng.) and EP credentials. His perspective has also been shaped by volunteer service as a Victim Services Advocate and as a patient and family advisor on health-care committees.
